Lake Mburo national park is located in Kiruhura district in western Uganda with its perfect gate way near Kampala – Mbarara highway covering an area of 271sq.km thus the smallest savannah national park. It was gazetted in 1933 as a controlled hunting area and then upgraded to a game reserve in 1963.
The park has a variety of mammals like impala only found in Mburo, Topi, buffalo, eland, hippopotamus, crocodiles, oribi, the largest number of zebra and with a variety of bird life of 350 species like acacia and water associated birds. The five lakes within the park attract hippos and crocodiles.
The park has camp grounds, permanent tent facilities and safari lodges for visitors lake Mburo luxury tented camp inside the park, Rwonyo rest camp, arcadia cottages, Mihingo lodge and Lake Mburo safari lodge. The park has two gates Nshara gate and Sanga gate.
