Kidepo Valley National Park

Kidepo valley national park is and is located in the Karamoja region of northern Uganda and borders the south Sudan in the north east and Kenya in the north east. It is a wilderness park with rugged savannah dry, hot, isolated yet a virgin waiting to be discovered, traversed by large sand rivers, dominated by the 2750m mount Morungole and transected by the Narus and Kidepo rivers.

Kidepo was a game reserve in 1958 and later turned into a national park in 1962 and one of Africa’s most magnificent wildernesses with the big game favourites 475 bird species and 77 mammal species such as African elephants, maneless zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, ostriches, hartebeests, hyena, lions, elands, and the largest herds of buffaloes. It is little visited and visitors should expect to enjoy a high degree of solitude. While at Kidepo, one can enjoy a night in one of the safari lodges like Apoka safari lodge, or go camping at Apoka rest camp and Nga moru wilderness camp among others.
